Vice President Internal - Sam Hwang

Over the past 5 years, I have experienced the many different aspects of AMSA, first as a member interested in global health, speaking at the first ever GHC (then the Developing World Conference) then as an active participant through various roles on my medical society, attendance at Conventions and NLDS, and this year, as an active partner in medical student advocacy as the Chair of NSWMSC.

It is through these experiences that I have come to learn about AMSA and its activities as the peak representative body of all medical students in Australia, in not only enriching the student experience and ensuring the professional and personal well-being of medical students, but in commenting and providing a student perspective on a variety of health and healthcare related issues that inevitably have broader effects on society.

My passion and belief in AMSA and what it can do for students and society motivates me to stand for Vice President (Internal). In this position, I will draw on my skills and experiences in project and financial management to ensure that AMSA Ltd. continues to develop while meeting its corporate responsibilities as an increasingly professional organisation. This is a direction which I fully support, and which will ultimately help AMSA realise its goals for advocacy and its members.

AMSA is many things for many people. It is more than just advocacy and more than just Convention. In fact, it is more than the sum of all its parts, and our team’s goals are to improve advocacy through NAP and grassroots activities through AIGs.

It has not escaped our team’s minds that at the core of AMSA’s ability to connect, inform and represent, is its ability to communicate effectively and be fiscally responsible, and our bid team has worked tirelessly to prepare AMSA on both these fronts.

I’ve worked with Chris and other members of the team for many years now in a variety of settings, and know we will be effective in working together no matter what the year throws our way. I have every confidence that our team, by implementing our projects and initiatives, will build a stronger AMSA, not just for next year but for the years to come, and we look forward to your support in developing AMSA for 2010 and beyond.
