Communication needs to be a two-way street, both to and from the Exec, and we propose a suite of strategies to improve the way we relate to Council, MedSocs and individual members.
When it comes to communicating with Council, we believe AMSA Huddle is underutilised and has a lot of untapped potential. We plan to change the way it is used so that becomes less didactic and primarily a forum for policy discussion and initiatives, with other ‘action-items’ and those needing immediate feedback being moved back to email and direct phone communication. We will continue the weekly synopsis of executive activities to AMSA Reps (and in future, Presidents as well), and will bundle with it our weekly executive meeting minutes.
Communicating with individual members is also important and we have further plans to build upon the AMSA website (with the ability to develop this in-house), including many more interactive features, a cleaner layout, and a President’s blog, updated at least fortnightly, giving all AMSA members a view into what the executive is accomplishing. We will also produce periodic informational videos as an entertaining and time-efficient way to inform medical students about pertinent issues which can be played at lectures.
In the interests of connecting MedSocs better on a grassroots level, and to facilitate better idea and skills sharing, we propose structured teleconferences between specific MedSoc officers chaired by an AMSA executive member. This could include international student reps, Treasurers, social reps or other common positions who can share ideas and advice. This has the added benefit of connecting more people to AMSA besides the AMSA Rep and President.
